5 out of 5 stars Exiled, angry, scared, lonely and falling for the wrong guy.   July 29, 2010

I love Nicholas Sparks; I sometimes want to throw his stupid sad endings at his heart-wrenching head (Nights in Rodanthe, Message in A Bottle), but I love him. This book is a perfect example of why. It was so fantastic I just sat there with a tear streaked face hugging it when I turned the last page.

The 3 things I loved most:
1) Ronnie: the girls got attitude and I love it. She was stubborn and witty and I felt in love with her character (not to thrilled the Miley was cast in the movie, although I will withhold my opinions until I actually see it)

2) Will: oh come on, who doesnt love a swoon-worthy guy who has a brain too?

3) Steve and Jonah: Their father/son relationship was just so cute (for lack of a better word) I was smiling, laughing and yes even crying through their scenes.

4 out of 5 stars Like a Fine Wine, Nicholas Sparks Just Keeps Getting Better!   June 21, 2010

Nicholas Sparks' fans know that he is the go-to author for bittersweet stories of romance, coming-of-age, and heartbreak. For those of you who have yet to read a Sparks novel, here's your chance to experience his writing at its best!

This novel chronicles the summer of a young, recently graduated rebellious girl named Ronnie, who has been sent with her brother to visit their estranged father following the divorce of their parents. Unhappy with being forced to leave behind her friends in New York City for a small ocean side town for a few months, she spends as much time as she can ignoring her father and brother. She eventually meets Will, a young man who lives in the town, and despite their differences, they fall for each other. The novel follows their relationship, as well as Ronnie's relationship with her father and family.

Without giving anything away, this story really tugs at one's heartstrings. Sparks weaves Ronnie and Will's relationship into a broader story about the importance of family with great skill and this is definitely one of the best examples of his work. I would reccomend it for teens as well as adults, as it can definitley be enjoyed by both.

Novel Thoughts

Nicholas Sparks has a talent for creating absolutely great and likable characters. You really get to see how an immature girl grows into a beautiful young woman in this story. I just loved the character development and that is what truly had me enamored throughout the whole story. True - it is a summer romance - but as you get into the book you quickly learn that there is much more to it.

A couple of other brilliant books I'd also recommend are 'Godstone - The Kairos Boxes' and 'The Shoebox':

Godstone - The Kairos Boxes

The Shoe Box (novella)

5 out of 5 stars very pleasant reading   May 21, 2010

I really loved this book and i i loved the religious link that characterized Ronnie's father.I think it enhanced this character's personality and message.

5 out of 5 stars Typical but Great   April 24, 2010

This book was nothing out of the norm of the teenage romance genre, but it was a great read. Although one of Sparks' longest books it is a quick read and is very hard to put down. There are enough twists and turns to keep the reader interested.
